Asse II mine 2015

On 09 December, 14 students took part in an excursion to the Asse mine. Above and below ground, a lot of information was given about the mine, its history and current projects, so that the students gained an excellent insight. Many thanks, at this point to the excellent supervision by the staff of the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz BfS) and the Asse GmbH.

After an introduction to the tasks of the BfS and the geology and historical development of the mine, we went underground in a basket after a short stop in the cavern. There, several operating points on the 490 and 750 m levels were visited. Current work was presented, such as the fact-finding and storage basins for salt solutions. After the tour, further questions were discussed in the information centre Info Asse before the journey home was started.
