Underground Repositories and Construction Materials

The Institute of Mining at the Clausthal University of Technology has been involved in the field of sealing of closure structures for final disposal for many years. Within the framework of a joint project "Optimization of magnesia binder systems for use in sealing structures for underground disposal sites and repositories for radioactive waste in the Salinar", which was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research between 2005 and 2009, work was carried out on the optimization of sealing structures (funding code 02C1405). Furthermore, in the period from 2004 to 2007, a project was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, which dealt with "Investigations of calcium sulfate rock salt construction materials for dam structures in underground landfills and repositories" (funding code 02C1134). Furthermore, it is possible to refer to doctoral theses in the field of construction material investigations with regard to dam structures underground.

In this context, relevant dissertations were prepared at the Institute of Mining at the Clausthal University of Technology, are "Investigations on rock salt-anhydrite-based construction materials for dam structures in the salt mountains" (2002) as well as "Basic investigations on backfill construction materials based on magnesium rock salt for repositories and landfills in the Salinar" (2004) and "Fluidic functional verification for sealing structures in rock salt and their fluid-supported sealing" (2016).

Below you will find the projects that the Institute of Mining is currently working on within the framework of this concept.
